Traveling for adventure is traveling for an unforgettable experience

When think of adventure travel, we come up with the typical images of African plains, exotic animals, jungles with multi-colored birds looking scornfully, of lions side-stepping across our paths, and serpents hanging from trees. We think of boats plowing through tempestuous waters, the wind spraying ocean mist in our face, the smell of the salty sea. Adventure seems to require something hazardous, something that just barely puts our life at stake. We don't mean to actually put our lives at stake. We are talking about something that is meant to be entertaining as well as, ultimately, safe. What we are seeking is something stimulating, new, something we do not find in our city streets. Such adventures are motivated by our need to experience a new environment, one so foreign to our own, that we should remember it the rest of our life. What is adventure travel if not an essaying out into some place strange and mysterious, some place that will bring up in us a wonder and awe that we have lost in the repetitious cycle of our daily lives? When the common and every recurring events of our lives begin to weigh like a cloudy sky and the same smells, sounds, the same sights, the same voices, faces we've seen year in an year out, become as if wrapped in a gray mist, we look longing across the sea and remember those stories we read in high school of ships with masts and buccaneers. We remember tales of exploration that those hearty discovers of new worlds brought home to amaze both common and royalty, tales of conflict, strange people dressed in animal skins and sporting spears. Adventure travel from this vantage means danger and victory. The common conception of adventure might be thought, as we say, common. We all know the adventure will not pose the same tensions as it did to those earlier explorers of the unknown. If we're looking for danger, we can find it right here in our streets when we attempt to cross them a rush hour. We can venture out to the seedy side of town if we want that danger to involve other men, and put something real at risk into our travel, like our pocket books. There are certainly strangely dressed people on the east side, tattooed and wearing outrageous costumes, and many of them are concealing weapons that will surely chill the bones. Perhaps adventure is not the correct word for what we call adventure travel. What do we really mean to say? In all adventure travel, are not looking for new experience? For some, art and culture lovers for instance, going to Greece to view the architecture of the ancients, going to Europe to gaze at aspiring Gothic steeples of ancient cathedrals, to cross stone bridges that have been walked by kings, artists, poets, to tour great castles and palaces overlaid with gold, while not suggesting danger at all, are still adventures. These offer something different, something mysterious, something that will bring us to wonder and awe. Not all adventures are dangerous at all. So if you're looking for that adventure this year that will give you the experience of a lifetime, remember, adventure is only in the eye of the beholder. Bon voyage! Travel to Caribbean Countries and Beautiful Beaches

There are several great ways to travel to Caribbean islands and one of the best ways is to book a long Caribbean cruise. You can book your travel to Caribbean ports with one of the top cruise lines online and save even more money. www.travelzoo.com has a great promotion that they send out weekly to their email subscribers. It is called “’This Week’s Top 20 for Travelzoo VIPs” and you need to go on their site and sign up for it. A typical special would be something like “$379 -- Bermuda: Cruise 7 Nights This Spring w/$50 Credit” or “$1149 -- 2-Week Panama Canal Cruise incl. $150 Credit & Air”. These and other fantastic special deals get sent directly to your email each week. One of the best cruise lines you can take to travel to Caribbean island destinations is Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines (www.royalcaribbean.com) but there are lots of cruise ship companies and some that are not as famous may be better values. You can get a lot more for your money if you travel to Caribbean destinations with a lesser known cruise line. Once on the cruise ship you will be able to do most anything you would dream of doing at a land locked resort. There are different restaurants and buffets available at all hours and all the food you can eat is included in your cruise ticket. Most of these buffets are incredible with great food including lobster, shrimp and seafood prepared by some of the best chefs in the business. There are many different ports of call when you travel to Caribbean countries via cruise ships. Some of the most popular are Puerto Plata (Dominican Republic), San Juan (Puerto Rico), St. John’s (Virgin Islands), St. Thomas (Virgin Islands), and Kingston (Jamaica). When you finally arrive you will either have signed up for a land tour with the ship or you can go off on your own, find your own taxi or rent-a-car and explore to your heart’s content. The only rule is that you have to be back at the ship at a certain hour or else you get left behind and that can cost you an arm and a leg. St. Thomas has some great shops near the pier where all the cruise ships berth and you can walk around and shop ‘til you drop. If you like rum, this is truly a paradise for you and you will find hundreds of rare bottles of rum including Rhum Babancourt and St. James Extra Old. You can pick up as many bottles as you want and not pay duty on them. This really makes them much more affordable and tempting to purchase. You can also get authentic Cuban cigars in St. Thomas as well as beautiful arts and crafts from the local artisans. If you want to relax you can take a cab to a local beach and lay out and get a suntan. One of the best parts of travel to Caribbean ports of call is that they each have their own distinct character and unbelievable beaches. All in all, a Caribbean cruise is a terrific and affordable way for families to explore travel to Caribbean countries and exotic beaches. Weekend Travel Deals

If you want to get away for the weekend, you probably don't want to spend a ton of money on a spur of the moment mental health break. There are plenty of ways that you can get away without dipping into what you may want to spend for a longer vacation later in the year. There are plenty of great deals out there and plenty to do if you just need to have a few days away to recharge your batteries and to clear your mind. Sometimes, weekend travel deals are too good to pass up. Go ahead and get away without going into debt. Some people like to find a few weekend travel deals each year instead of going away for a week or two at a time. Some people never take a vacation but realize that a few days away here and there is what is going to keep them sane when life is out of control. There are many things that we tend to do that help keep us on an even keel, but some of those things can be destructive. Instead of giving in to those things, take a few days to totally disappear with someone you care about or go alone, and allow yourself to refresh your outlook. Weekends away are great for this. How you want to go about finding your weekend travel deals is up to you. One way would be to think about where you want to go, how much you want to spend, and what you want to do. That is not so easy, but if you have an idea, that makes booking your weekend away a whole lot easier. Simple find out how you have to get there and the find a hotel that works for you. Weekend hotel rooms tend to be more expensive, but that is not a huge deal if you are only staying for a day or two. Look for deals online. Remember that going somewhere for the weekend means a shorter trip. Going somewhere that requires you to be on a plane for six hours is not going to give you much time to relax. Add to that the time spent at the airport both ways, you have less than a day to really enjoy yourself. Look for weekend travel deals that include short flights or short drives. Remember, just a few hours away is enough to make you feel like you are far away from the problems and stresses of your life. Take a three or even four day weekend if you want to go further away. Spur of the moment weekend trips are the most common type out there, which means you do not have a lot of time to make arrangements when you decide that you want to get away. The answer to your problem of little time but the need to get away would be to find travel agents or online vacation brokers that have weekend travel deals all ready to go. You can find them almost anywhere with everything taken care of for you. All you have to do is wait to hear your arrangements are confirmed, pay for your trip, and then pack. It's easier than ever to get away when you need it the most. The Economy Travel Mindset Can Save The Day

Economy travel is the way to go for your 2010 travel plans: Here's how... During the 90's , the economy was booming, jobs were plentiful and most of us weren't paying strict attention to what we spent on our vacation plans. Today, of course, is a different story. Now the situation has reversed to the point where many of us are saying, “What vacation?” Fortunately, the economy travel mindset can save the day. Yes, you can still have a great vacation if you know how to plan your travel with just a few tricks of the trade. Here, we've got some pointers on how to travel economically and in style. Your first step consists of doing a little research online. Just as you're keeping a close eye on your wallet, hotels and restaurants are hungry for your business. This means prices are coming down. Even the airlines are offering some great deals, particularly if you book well in advance. The big-name, one-stop shopping travel sites can be a convenient way to put together an economy travel package. It's certainly worth checking them out for their best price deal to your destination. However, here's a little known travel secret: the “independent” traveler who puts together his own itinerary can share hundreds of dollars in travel costs with just a little extra effort. Here's how this strategy works. If you're traveling by air, Google 'cheap airfares your-destination'. This allows you to zero in on sites that specialize in travel to your region of interest. You'll find that such sites often have listings at drop-dead prices which just may beat the prices quoted at the big-name sites. Sign up for a subscription to their free newsletters to get their latest finds delivered right to your in-box. If you're traveling by car, consider renting a vehicle that gets great mileage – the saving on gas may outweigh the cost of the rental if your own car is a gas guzzler. For accommodations, check out some of the exclusively hotel-oriented sites, which provide photos and contact information for hundreds of hotels in your destination area. Not only will you find unusual, boutique type accommodations not listed on the big-name sites, but when you call and book direct, you'll save a substantial amount of money. Use the same economy travel strategy to locate restaurants before you leave home. Use a search string such as 'Italian restaurants your-destination' (or whatever cuisine strikes your fancy). These restaurant directories include reviews from other travelers which help you find the great restaurants suited to your taste. Think of the types of activities you'll want to include in your vacation plan. Whether you're looking for walking tours, museums, theater, shopping or nature walks, you'll find resources online. This aspect of the economy travel plan saves both time and money, because you'll have dates and times as well as prices (sometimes at discounted prices) on hand before you ever leave home. Although it requires a bit of your time organizing your own itinerary with this travel strategy, you'll have fun doing it and you'll save a lot of money. You'll have a customized vacation plan you know you'll enjoy, with maximum value. Economy travel makes good sense. Bon voyage! Airline Travel Tips to Costa Rica

There are several ways to get to Costa Rica and you need to know a few things before you start out. First things first, you need to get your passport in order. This sounds rudimentary and not worth mentioning but you would be surprised how many people that I know personally that have planned and paid for their trip to Costa Rica and show up at the airport without a passport. Airline travel to Costa Rica and most other foreign countries by U.S. residents requires that the traveler hold a valid passport. You can get a passport at any U.S. Post Office in about three to six weeks. If you need it faster there are agencies that you can go to that will process it in as little as two days, but it will cost considerably more. When contemplating airline travel to Costa Rica, it will depend on what airport you are leaving from. Delta flies the most planes there but you need to fly to the Atlanta airport and I personally dislike this place. It is so big you have to take a little subway train from one terminal to the other. It is noisy and unless you have a pass to the Admiralty Club, you will find yourself waiting many hours on hard plastic chairs surrounded by screaming infants and self important yahoos trying to impress you by talking as loud as they can into their cell phones about giant business deals they are supposedly putting together. So if you live on the West Coast, you may want to consider Continental Airlines. They also do not travel direct to Costa Rica, but their pit stop is at Houston International Airport, which is not only closer (three hours from the West Coast as opposed to six and a half hours to Atlanta) but also, in my opinion, much more comfortable and far less crowded and noisy. Also, another requirement of airline travel to a foreign country is that after the flight back home you will be subjected to having to pass through U.S. Customs. In Atlanta chances are you will end up in a gigantic line of tourists and citizens and have to wait for over an hour just to get cleared (hopefully) and sent through to baggage. There you will have to pick up your bags and then redirect them to your final destination. You will also undergo another rigor of modern airline travel which is the Security line and again, at Atlanta, this is huge and snakes around for what seems to be several city blocks. Once again, Houston is much easier in regards to these two aspects and you will be glad you chose Continental. While airline travel to Costa Rica can be rigorous and even downright tedious for some, these tips can help you to make your flight more enjoyable. All you have to do is turn on the television or the radio nowadays to hear someone talking about how the economy is affecting this year’s prime travel season. And, if you’re paying attention to those individuals or any advertising, you’ll know that right now might be the ideal time to find the best travel deals. Most tourist attractions right now are so desperately trying to lure people into their environments that they’re coming up with all sorts of clever ways to get people to make a purchase. Right now, you may find that some of the best travel deals are to be found in places where you never thought that you could find any discounts. I mean, let’s face it – hotels double and triple their room rates during peak seasons. It may be the smallest room imaginable but you end up paying equivalent to an elaborate suite. Well, right now, getting a cheaper hotel room may be the best travel deal possible. Some hotels are going to great lengths in order to ensure that there are no vacancies. You may find offers for meals being included or amusement park tickets. Some places will offer gift cards for gas stations in order to make it worth your visits. Here’s a hint though – some of those hotels will be making their offers publicly known online. Others will only be making those offers if you pick up the phone and call the hotel directly. So, even if you think that you’re getting the best travel deal online, you may still want to pick up the phone and give them a call. Don’t hesitate to ask if they have any discounts, packages or incentives. If they’re not offering anything, try someplace else. And don’t hesitate to tell them what deals you found at a competitor. They may be willing to match whatever you found. Some of the other best travel deals that you’ll find right now are deals on airfare. Those airlines don’t want to lose any more revenue than what they are currently losing. In fact, every single time they have an empty seat on a flight, they are losing money. You could easily find right now that there are some amazing deals to be purchased. You may find that looking around on various sites may land you the best travel deal, rather than calling the airline directly. Again though, shop around. Don’t just assume that the first site you look at has the best travel deal possible. Look for those deep discounts and incentives. Though a lot of people may shy away from using a travel agent, if you’re planning an extended getaway, a honeymoon or more detailed vacation, you may find that a travel agent can get the best travel deal for you. However, with some time, energy and flexibility, you may find that you are your own best travel agent. Leaving a day earlier or later could save you hundreds of dollars. Flexibility is always the key to the best travel deals, but the economy’s woes right now are certainly helping out with getting some amazing discounts right now. If you are able to afford to travel for a short time or even an extended time, take advantage of some of the few perks of the economy. Utilize the best travel deals to your advantage and perhaps you could end up with the vacation of a lifetime, and one that you will remember as the best bargain you could have ever found. Take a Look Into all Inclusive Travel

Everyone could use a little time away from their everyday life. With the economy in shambles and people’s stress levels at an all-time high, planning a vacation may be a necessity to even survive. Of course, not everyone can plan and pay for some lavish getaway. Sometimes, finances may hinder the actual destination of your getaway, but you can still make something happen. Ideally, the best way to escape is when you look into all inclusive travel. Some of the prices may look at little bit intimidating but when you’re going to be needing a flight, hotel and meals, it truly can be the best way to go. When booking all inclusive travel, you may actually end up saving quite a bit of money. How is that possible? Its simple. Your all inclusive travel is most likely going to include your round trip airfare, your room or overnight accommodations, all meals and drinks and taxes and tips. If you have to pay for all of that on an individual basis, you may find that those little details could add up to double the price that you will be paying for an all inclusive travel package. Going on a cruise? You don’t want the see what your bill would be for all of the alcoholic beverages, or even non-alcoholic drinks for your entire trip. Many travelers have just about had a heart attack or a panic attack when the cruise reaches its final destination and they are responsible for paying for not only the drinks, but the gratuities as well. Suddenly, the end of their vacation leaves them not as peaceful as they should be at the end of a relaxing trip. Your all inclusive travel package could lead you to places that you never thought that you could afford to see. Right now, travel is quite a bargain. You may not be able to name your own price, but you may be able to get a much better deal than you would have a few years ago. Let’s face it – people can’t afford all of the luxuries anymore. Their travel plans may be the first thing that they cut back on. When there are not as many people travelling the world, the prices tend to go down. If the price goes down – travel destinations want to lure in as many people as possible. The best way to draw people in is to lower the prices. Suddenly, an all inclusive package may end up being a price that you can afford. You can find tons of all inclusive travel deals all over the internet. However, before you decide to make any payments or purchase anything definite, make sure you do some shopping around. Just because one site has a great deal doesn’t mean that another site won’t have another price that will save you a few extra dollars or offer a different location that may be even more appealing. You could contact a travel agent and put them to work to find you the best all inclusive travel deal. Or, you could take advantage of a travel agent’s knowledge and your own research to truly find the ultimate and affordable all inclusive travel package and treat yourself to a wonderful vacation. Travel to New England Is a Must in the Fall

A few years ago, I made my first trip to Boston for a sight-seeing tour of the New England states that I had planned. I went in October when the leaves were falling, and if I could recommend any time of year to travel to New England, it would be during the fall. I started out my tour by traveling around the city of Boston itself and seeing all of the historic sites as well as a few fun places, like the bar where the show “Cheers” was shot and Fenway Park. What I loved the most about Boston was that it is definitely a modern city, but it very much has an historical feel to it at the same time. When I decided to travel to New England, I had no idea how close everything would be. I'm from Texas, and I expected to have to drive hundreds of miles to get from one state to the next, and it really was not like that at all. I was able to see a lot of each state on my seven-day tour, devoting one day to Boston, one to the rest of Massachusetts and the rest to the other New England states. I went down to Rhode Island after I spent my first two days in Massachusetts and traveled around the smallest state in the union. I went and saw Providence, then went to the the Museum of Work and Culture in Woonsocket. I next visited Connecticut, going to see the Stratford Point lighthouse and then to see Fort Nathan Hale. When I first decided to travel to New England, I knew that I would rent a car because I wanted to take in the scenic beauty, and there certainly was plenty of that. After Connecticut, I went up through Massachusetts and into Vermont, where I made it a special point to go and see the state house in Montpelier with its golden dome. I also sampled some of the local maple syrup before I headed East to New Hampshire. New Hampshire was a must for me when I chose to travel to New England, because I was accepted to Dartmouth University but never actually went. I just had to see the campus once in my lifetime, and it was everything I imagined it to be. My final stop was Maine, where I raided some of the local fishing villages for seafood and made a trip up to Acadia National Park, which has some of the most beautiful scenic views I have ever seen in my life. I traveled back to Boston and drove to Logan Airport on the final day of my trip. To travel to New England is really to see one of the most breathtaking and historical regions of our country. I would definitely recommend visiting in the fall. All Inclusive Travel Deals

If you are an experienced traveler, you may know the ins and outs of travel to all parts of the world, and you may have very specific ideas about what you want to see and where you want to go. Most people, however, have a country in mind when thinking about world travel, or a specific site that they wish to see. The details other than those things are up in the air. If you have destination in mind, either nationally or internationally, but you are not sure about the details, you may want to look into all inclusive travel deals as these are easy, relatively safe, and most of the work is done for you. All you have to do is pack and enjoy your vacation. All inclusive travel deals are not for everyone, but most people enjoy a vacation that is put together for them. When you choose these types of vacations, you don't have to worry about booking your plane and hotel, and you also don't have to take a huge amount of cash with you. Most of your vacation is planned out and most meals and extras are paid for in advance. You will have to take some money with you, but you won't have to think much about your arrangements and where you are going to go next. It's all taken care of for you. The trick is finding the right package that works for you and your budget. All inclusive travel deals have very specific hotels and other accommodations included. You simply have to pick your time to go, where you want to go, and then sort through the various offers that you find. Chances are very good that you are going to find what you want in a package that you can afford and live with for your next vacation. If you don't seem to see anything you like, you just have to do some more searching. Online offers for all inclusive travel deals are generally pretty good. What prices you are going to find will depend on quite a few different things. The time of year you want to go is a big indicator of how much you are going to pay. If you go during peak travel time, you are going to pay more. However, if you book that same package well enough in advance, you can find substantial savings. You also have to shop around, as you can find vastly different prices on comparable packages through different online companies. You may also want to see what your local travel agent can do for you when you want to book all inclusive travel deals. You can find them online or at a local storefront. They may be able to get you even more savings, even at heavily traveled times of year. They can find discounts that you may not be able to find on your own, and most importantly, they are a live person that is going to be there for you if something were to go wrong. When you book through some larger companies, you may not get the same personalized touch you can get with a travel agent.
