Travel to New England Is a Must in the Fall

A few years ago, I made my first trip to Boston for a sight-seeing tour of the New England states that I had planned. I went in October when the leaves were falling, and if I could recommend any time of year to travel to New England, it would be during the fall. I started out my tour by traveling around the city of Boston itself and seeing all of the historic sites as well as a few fun places, like the bar where the show “Cheers” was shot and Fenway Park. What I loved the most about Boston was that it is definitely a modern city, but it very much has an historical feel to it at the same time. When I decided to travel to New England, I had no idea how close everything would be. I'm from Texas, and I expected to have to drive hundreds of miles to get from one state to the next, and it really was not like that at all. I was able to see a lot of each state on my seven-day tour, devoting one day to Boston, one to the rest of Massachusetts and the rest to the other New England states. I went down to Rhode Island after I spent my first two days in Massachusetts and traveled around the smallest state in the union. I went and saw Providence, then went to the the Museum of Work and Culture in Woonsocket. I next visited Connecticut, going to see the Stratford Point lighthouse and then to see Fort Nathan Hale. When I first decided to travel to New England, I knew that I would rent a car because I wanted to take in the scenic beauty, and there certainly was plenty of that. After Connecticut, I went up through Massachusetts and into Vermont, where I made it a special point to go and see the state house in Montpelier with its golden dome. I also sampled some of the local maple syrup before I headed East to New Hampshire. New Hampshire was a must for me when I chose to travel to New England, because I was accepted to Dartmouth University but never actually went. I just had to see the campus once in my lifetime, and it was everything I imagined it to be. My final stop was Maine, where I raided some of the local fishing villages for seafood and made a trip up to Acadia National Park, which has some of the most beautiful scenic views I have ever seen in my life. I traveled back to Boston and drove to Logan Airport on the final day of my trip. To travel to New England is really to see one of the most breathtaking and historical regions of our country. I would definitely recommend visiting in the fall. Buy Cheap International Air Tickets and See the World

I love to travel, and one of my goals in life is to visit as many different countries as possible. I'm at 19 right now, which is a respectable number as far as that goes, but not nearly enough to satisfy my acute wanderlust. I just feel that there are too many beautiful and fascinating places in this world to stay confined in my hometown. I want to see everything! Of course, this can be a very expensive hobby, especially because I'm not a millionaire or a trust fund brat. But thanks to frequent deals on cheap international air tickets, I've been able to do quite a bit of traveling on even on my small budget. I know there are folks out there that will tell you the only way to get cheap international air tickets is to fly standby. They're correct in the sense that a standby ticket is indeed quite a bit cheaper than reserving your seat early, but honestly, who can travel like that? If I take a week off of work for my vacation to Tahiti, then I better make sure I get to Tahiti! I don't want to wait around in an airport hoping for someone else to miss the flight or change their minds at the last minute. Plus, how can I score discount hotel reservations, book a rental car, or plan any activities if I don't even know when I'll arrive at my destination. Sorry, but flying standby is not for me. Other people say you have to travel as a courier or something like that in order to get cheap international air tickets. Again, there's a grain of truth to this statement, insofar as couriers do indeed get deep discounts on their airfare. But if you rely on this method to get cheap international air tickets, I can tell you right now you won't be able to travel the way you want. Couriers are used infrequently, and most companies already have steady relationships with a dependable crew. It can be tough for a newcomer to break into the game. Furthermore, couriers usually travel alone, so unless you're content to go solo, I'd skip this option. Speaking as someone with years of experience, I'd much rather just look for cheap international air tickets in the usual ways, like scouring internet travel sites, speaking with booking agents, and just generally monitoring fares until I spot a deal that's too good to pass up. This gives me a lot more control over the whole situation, which is how I like it. The bottom line here is that you don't have to rely on the uncertainty of flying standby or scoring a courier gig in order to travel the world. There are plenty of websites and agencies that offer cheap international air tickets on a regular basis. All you have to do is check around to find the best deals! Working All The Intertnet Services Out There For Cheap Flight Tickets?

As easy as the Internet and all related technology are supposed to have made our lives, conceptually, things are much harder to get a grasp of these days. It used to be that if you needed to go across the Atlantic, all you needed to do was to call up a travel agency, tell them how much you were willing to spend and what dates you were willing to work with, and before long, there would be a real physical ticket headed your way and it would be worth a real sum of money too. And when travel found the Internet, at first, things only got better. There was maybe Expedia and maybe Travelocity to help get you a reasonable deal, and you were happy to take it feeling grand to have travel-agent tools in the palm of your hand. If you were lucky, you even got a proper ticket in the mail soon. Internet travel has been furiously working at finding ways to cut prices for a decade now though and cheap flight tickets are a reality in a way that could not have been possible back then. But the price we pay for it in other ways! The two grand old players are still around, but they are surrounded by literally dozens of other Internet travel websites working very hard to make all our collective decision-making lives a living hell. There is Kayak, CheapTickets, Mobissimo - just too many to list. So if all you want is a set of cheap flight tickets to get from A to B, how do you work the system without feeling guilty over any steps you left out or feeling bad about how crazy all of it is driving you? Let me share with you the system I use myself when I need to go about the country or outside on business or pleasure. Let's take a simple trip from New York, out to the beaches of Miami where it should be nice and warm now. I like to start out with my rooting around at Kayak; this one is a meta-search engine - that is to say, it checks out all the other notable travel sites out there to report to me about. It also has a really minimalist layout, and no bombardment of advertising all over the place. As minimal as it is, it also gives me a few really good choices: for instance, I can specify what city I would prefer to have my layover at and also lets me specify my choice of frequent flier plan to use. So the moment I make my first attempt for my cheap flight tickets, I get two search windows from Expedia and Priceline; I have a quote for $328 all included, on American and it seems pretty reasonable. And it's just as well, because with my membership, I can get free checked baggage. But I'd just like to see what else the deep dark world of the Internet has in store for me, and I turn to ITASoftware.com. This website is not your bright and cheerful user friendly kind. You can't even buy your tickets here - just learn about the fares. It is kind of impenetrable and makes you wonder if it was designed for some kind of travel professional. In fact the way it looks, Iwouldn't be surprised if on some back page, I found some special supersecret inside tips that only travel agents would otherwise know. It doesn't really have any news for me other than to save me five dollars on the same flight I found on Priceline. The kind of hoops I will jump through for a couple of cheap flight tickets! I think that at this time, I should turn my attention to cFares.co (does the c stand for Cheap?). This happens to a members-only website. You pay them a $50 membership for the year, and for each ticket you buy through them, it will shave about $20 off. Sometimes, you can get really lucky with them - last time on a trip to Asia, I found a fare here that was a full $150 cheaper than anywhere else. Anyway right now, cFares isn't willing to be any more generous than to knock it down to $301 - for a flight on Continental. They don't even say anything about the American flight I saw before on Expedia. Still, that's pretty good compared to what the others are willing to give me. Now I'm just about ready to buy, except that I have a little niggling doubt - what if a couple of days after I buy, the fares fall $50? Is there any way to tell which way the fares are headed in the near future? For us fans of cheap flight tickets, they do have such a service, and it's called Yapta.com (there is competitor called for Forecast.com, but that has been bought out by Bing). Actually, Yapta feels that the prices will go down $18 in two days, so I think I'll wait. If I wanted to fly international, I first head for Vayama. They have lots of deals no one else in the world has. But of course when you fly long-distance like this, there is always the calculus of whether getting a cheap flight would make more sense than getting a slightly more expensive flight with lots of frequent flyer miles. Other than that, I would be happier flying on Tuesdays and Wednesdays when most of the time, the airlines charge a little less for some inexplicable reason. Somehow, going for the cheap flight tickets on these scientifically designed bargain-hunting websites doesn't always make all the sense. As much as these are a great way to find a low cost of flight, you don't always get all the special deals airlines have in mind, and you don't get your frequent flyer miles either. And sometimes, when the computers get it all wrong, at the airport, the clerk won't be able to blame it on some travel website. Check Around For The Best Airfare Specials

A family friend was recently putting together a fun-filled adventure vacation for a large group of people. She invited my husband and I, to join this adventurous group in traveling with them. Without even hesitating, we agreed to talking to her about it; we desperately could use a vacation. Pretty soon, we found ourselves turning it down. The vacation was a great deal, a great value and the opportunity of a lifetime. However, it was to a foreign country and we have no interest in flying right now. Not surprisingly, the airfare specials for this vacation were amazing. In fact, it used to be difficult to even find a domestic flight for a price that reasonable. Right now, with the economy still being in dire straits, airfare specials are everywhere. Taking a vacation may be more feasible now than they have been in years. Dying to take your kids to Disney? There are packages galore that are giving away free park passes, lodging, and even more. Airfare specials to and from nearby airports may be at an all-time low, depending on how much time you spend doing some price comparisons and shopping around. All-inclusive vacations may be more affordable right now as well because of the price wars going on with airfare. There are a lot of problems facing the travel industry right now. Lack of finances leaves people putting vacations at the bottom of their priority lists. The attempts of terrorism and the threats of terrorism that could be yet to come, makes people cautious about traveling. Even though those airfare specials are incredibly tempting right now, make sure that you know all of the hidden facts that may not be mentioned until after you’re already committed to that airline ticket. Be sure to do your homework and check around for the best airfare specials. When you find a ticket that sounds affordable, check for hidden fees. Some airlines are now increasing their fees for checking baggage. You may find yourself paying an extra $25 to $100 per traveler based on the amount of luggage you just have to take along. Another airline may have been charging a bit more for their airfare specials, which was why you didn’t choose that deal, and they aren’t charging any extra fees. Suddenly, the least expensive airfare deal becomes higher than the deals you didn’t even think of considering. And remember that after you do find the airfare specials that are ideal for you and your travelling situation, become familiar with the new tactics that are being introduced on a daily basis at airports for security. Get all of the facts and details in order to arrive, in plenty of time, to get through security and not miss your flight. If you don’t take the time to know all of those extra facts, your flight may end up leaving without you. If that happens, those airfare specials weren’t such a great deal afterall. All Inclusive Travel Deals

If you are an experienced traveler, you may know the ins and outs of travel to all parts of the world, and you may have very specific ideas about what you want to see and where you want to go. Most people, however, have a country in mind when thinking about world travel, or a specific site that they wish to see. The details other than those things are up in the air. If you have destination in mind, either nationally or internationally, but you are not sure about the details, you may want to look into all inclusive travel deals as these are easy, relatively safe, and most of the work is done for you. All you have to do is pack and enjoy your vacation. All inclusive travel deals are not for everyone, but most people enjoy a vacation that is put together for them. When you choose these types of vacations, you don't have to worry about booking your plane and hotel, and you also don't have to take a huge amount of cash with you. Most of your vacation is planned out and most meals and extras are paid for in advance. You will have to take some money with you, but you won't have to think much about your arrangements and where you are going to go next. It's all taken care of for you. The trick is finding the right package that works for you and your budget. All inclusive travel deals have very specific hotels and other accommodations included. You simply have to pick your time to go, where you want to go, and then sort through the various offers that you find. Chances are very good that you are going to find what you want in a package that you can afford and live with for your next vacation. If you don't seem to see anything you like, you just have to do some more searching. Online offers for all inclusive travel deals are generally pretty good. What prices you are going to find will depend on quite a few different things. The time of year you want to go is a big indicator of how much you are going to pay. If you go during peak travel time, you are going to pay more. However, if you book that same package well enough in advance, you can find substantial savings. You also have to shop around, as you can find vastly different prices on comparable packages through different online companies. You may also want to see what your local travel agent can do for you when you want to book all inclusive travel deals. You can find them online or at a local storefront. They may be able to get you even more savings, even at heavily traveled times of year. They can find discounts that you may not be able to find on your own, and most importantly, they are a live person that is going to be there for you if something were to go wrong. When you book through some larger companies, you may not get the same personalized touch you can get with a travel agent. If you Have Air Travel Miles, Upgrading Just Became Much More Fun

February and March - the time of the year when lucky business travelers all over the country who have just made it to their airline's elite status, sit down to total up (and not to mention gloat over and brag about) their incidental earnings in qualifying air travel miles; and when they dream about all the upgrades they look forward to. But they can gloat all they want; people just have more miles now that they can use these days. It all began last year; lots of airlines thought they could earn their premier customers' custom by letting them qualify for miles when they shopped at specific stores or used specific credit cards. Everyone took this bait really enthusiastically. So now, if you earn your elite stripes the old-fashioned way putting in some hard flying all around, you'll be sitting next to people who can just earn miles using their credit card to gas up. Why is this a problem? On lots of domestic routes, you'll only find small regional jets usually, that don't even have first-class. That the airlines just hand you free coupons for products that don't exist for most of the time, you could be forgiven for thinking of this as a sneaky trick. Especially when you learn that of the handful of seats that they do have to go around, airline employees have dibs on them most of the time. So this is the way it is going to be for anyone who wants to redeem qualifying air travel miles for elite first-class seats, now, and over the next couple of years. If you aren't near the top of the elite program on your airline, the best those miles can do, is set you up for a good case of the "if onlys'. Airlines normally have at least three levels to their elite flyer programs; and if your airline is like Continental, there'll be a new high level, a fourth one, like the Continental Presidential Platinum Elite. Typically, only one out of a hundred frequent flyers qualifies for elite programs on any airline; But they've been really handing out those bonuses recently, and those elite lounges are soon to be bursting full with five times as many members. With this many people fighting over the few seats that are available on their air travel miles, actually getting a choice seat can descend into undignified clamor. There are all kinds of factors that affect who gets an elite upgrade and who doesn't. If for example, you have been buying full fare coach tickets, the airlines want to show you their appreciation, by bumping you up over all the other elites. But if the next guy happened to pay $10 more on his tickets than you, well, he gets ahead of the line. If you happen to be a low- ranking elite, you may or may not get an offer - just the day of your flight. If you are a higher-ranking elite, you could be given three days' notice. Sometimes, you can find yourself standing right at the check-in counter, glancing at the screen to see if your name's being announced for an upgrade. There's a lot of smartphone Internet traffic that is generated by people who are just trying to check when they get to go, over and over again. At least the airlines are beginning to return some dignity to the affair, by publishing an upgrade list. Airlines should just realize that they can't dangle this "incentive" or "reward" before you and have you snapped at it like a hungry animal, I didn't feel any gratitude to the airline in the end. That is just not how people work. Last Minute Air Travel Can Be Expensive or Cheap

Every now and then, I will have to book a flight on short notice to some city where I have to do business, and what I have found is that last minute air travel can be expensive, but it can also be cheap if you keep your eyes and ears open. I recently had to make a trip to Denver to meet with a colleague about a proposal we were working on, and because he lives in San Francisco and I live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, we decided to meet halfway. I figured that I was probably going to end up spending an arm and a leg to get out there. I looked through some old Travelocity e-mails that I had in my inbox, and found one with a trip to Denver that still had one day to book, as long as I traveled within a certain time frame. As it happened, I was traveling at the time that the deal was for, so I went ahead and tried to book the deal. Now, this is not always a sure thing, because I've tried it before where those tickets have all been booked, even though I was still within the window to order tickets. Since this was last minute air travel, I realized that I may not get them, but there were still tickets available, and at a good price. I ended up paying just under $300 for a a round trip, which was a quite a relief. On the other hand, when I was in college about 14 years ago, I spent a semester studying abroad in England, and I got a very good deal when I went because, number one, I was going to be there for a long time, and secondly, I was traveling at a rather unpopular time of the year to be visiting England. I became very good friends with a man named Damion while I was over there, and it just so happened that he and fiancée decided to push up their wedding to two weeks after I had returned to the United States. He e-mailed me and told me that he would really like for me to be there, and because this was last minute airline travel, and international travel at that, I knew that I was going take a big hit to my pocketbook. As it turned out, it ended up costing me about $400 more to go back than it had on my original trip to England just five months prior. He offered to pay the difference, but we were friends and I knew he really wanted me to be there, so I told him not to worry about, but I was surprised there was such a big difference in price. Last minute air travel can be costly, but you can also find good deals from time to time because not enough people are traveling on a particular flight. I have experienced both situations, and it really just comes down to how much you pay attention to the best deals possible.
